Apple Laptops MacBook Air 1TB

MacBook Air 1TB 8GB Apple Laptops

When Apple introduced the MacBook Air in 2008, it really put thin and light on the map. It wasnt the first thin laptop, but it was the one that really made the category stand out. The key to success lay in what Apple didnt shrink for the Air, not what it did. The processor was slower at 1.6 GHz, the hard drive smaller, but the screen and keyboard were full size. This meant that even though the MacBook Air was easily portable, it wasnt so small that it was hard to use. The trade off was that it lost the optical SuperDrive, but external models soon picked up the slack.

What are the Options on a MacBook Air?

The standard MacBook Air comes with a fifth-generation Intel Core processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 13-inch screen. It has a multi-touch trackpad, and LED-backlit keyboard. A Lithium-Ion battery keeps it running. SSDs designs were for laptops because of their rugged construction and minimal effect on battery life. Note that the Air doesnt have the Force Touch trackpad found in some 12-inch and 15-inch MacBooks, or the new Touch Bar found on some laptops. With the combination of low power components and OS X power management it manages to combine portability with excellent battery life. The biggest trade off of its compact size is the limited number of user configurable options when compared to other Mac laptops:

  • Processor: The default processor is a 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5, with a 2.2 GHz Core i7, also from Intel, available as an extra cost replacement for this MacBook.
  • Storage: All models use SSD storage, with the MacBook Air shipping with one of a 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB SSD installed. Current models use the PCIe interface for higher transfer speeds.

How Do You Get 1 TB on a MacBook Air?

Since Apple does not offer a 1 TB option with the Air, the question becomes: what do you have to do to change that? Luckily, there is something you can do. Other World Computing, or OWC, offers solid state storage options for a number of Intel MacBooks including the Air, so you can upgrade the storage yourself or find a MacBook Air that already has 1 TB installed. There are two options available:

  • OWC Aura: Available in capacities up to 1 TB, the Aura features up to a 763 MB/sec read speed for lightning fast loads.
  • OWC Aura Pro X: For even more capacity and performance the Aura Pro X gives up to 1352 MB/sec reads and up to 1 TB and 2 TB capacities thanks to the new file system in MacOS High Sierra.

Advantages of the 1 TB MacBook Air

When you have a 1 TB Apple MacBook Air, you can do a lot more with your laptop. More and faster storage helps keep your i5 fed, especially when you cannot upgrade the RAM. While you can do more work on the 13-inch MacBook Air, the 11-inch model is an even more portable laptop. Any MacBook can benefit from more storage, including a 12-inch MacBook as well as the various 13-inch MacBook models.
