Complete Motorcycle Clutches Kits for Suzuki Hayabusa

The Hayabusa was first released in 1999 and has a regulated top speed of 188 to 194 MPH. In the Japanese language, the name Hayabusa refers to the peregrine falcon, a bird known for its high-speed dives that reach 180 to 202 miles per an hour, making it the worlds fastest bird of prey. The Suzuki Hayabusa offers drivers a 1340-cubic centimeter engine and can go from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour in 2.6 seconds, making it popular among drag bike racers.

What causes the clutch to slip?

The Hayabusas models clutch is comprised of friction-generating plates that engage and disengage the flywheel from the engine. If these friction plates do not engage completely, a slip can occur. There are four primary reasons why these plates slip.

  • Worn clutch plates. Much like brake pads, clutch plates wear down over time. How hard you ride your Suzuki motorcycle will determine how soon you will have to replace these components. As clutch plates thin, they can no longer provide the friction needed to engage and disengage the flywheel. Under normal conditions, they can last about 30,000 to 50,000 miles, sometimes longer. On the other hand, if you race your bike, clutches will need replacing more frequently.
  • Weak clutch springs. If you look at the clutch basket, you will find a set of clutch springs that are used to reset the clutch back to its fully engaged position. When the spring loses the power to return the clutch to its original position, the plates will slip.
  • Using the incorrect type of oil. Clutch oil is specifically designed for clutches. Using any other type of oil can have adverse effects on the clutch plates. For example, using engine oil will cause the plates to slip due to too much lubrication.
  • Improperly adjusted clutch controls. Your Suzuki uses a steel cable to engage and disengage the clutching mechanism via an actuator arm. There is a set of adjusters on both sides of the cable that determine the range of the actuator. If the adjustment is not correct, this will leave the clutch partially engaged, causing it to slip.
What kind of clutch fluid should you use?

You can use both brake fluid and clutch fluid for your clutch. Dealers will generally recommend to use DOT 4 or 5.1 fluids. Regular DOT 5 is not recommended because it contains silicone. Once silicone is in your clutch system, you will not be able to use other grades of fluid due to a negative reaction to the silicone.

Why is it hard to put your Hayabusa into neutral?

If you are having trouble getting your bike into neutral with the engine on, the clutch cable may need to be readjusted. As time goes by, the cable will stretch with use, which keeps the clutch from disengaging all the way. Another issue can be the wrong fluid or not enough of it in the clutch. If your bike is new, it may take a few rides before this issue is resolved.
