Perfect for Internet Browsing and Movie Watching. Camera has no Zoom. Limited Virus Software.

Background: I needed a tablet to submit house inspections. Requires: a) taking pics, b) accessing web-based forms, c) data entry of defects. Price goal was under $100. Plus, I have Window-based laptops, so a Window tablet appealed to me. Evaluation: The Dell Venue handles everything I need to do. No issues with speed and the virtual keyboard is large. The keyboard does cover 50% of the screen. But, the keys are large and easy to tap. Windows 8.1 runs without issues. I spent 30+ yrs in the computer field. So, I use the 'desktop' view more that the tiles (it matches my prior IBM workstation comfort-zone). This is my first Windows 8.x device (All home PCs are Win 7). Took me a few days to learn navigating the tile options. Able to do whatever I need. Not sure how it will handle Win 10. I also bought the external keyboard and case. Rarely use the keyboard because the virtual keys are large and easy to accurately tap. I use a stylus because some of the control icons/tiles are small for my fingers. Wife watches Netflix on the device with no problem. The device is very durable. I use it in all weather conditions at construction sites. Dropped it twice and never missed a beat. Warnings: 1. The camera does not zoom. 2. Because it only has 1GB memory, I could not load Norton or McAfee virus protection on it. Was able to load Kaspersky Anti-virus. .

    Nice 8" screen & lightweight

If you want to use peripheral devices like a keyboard or mouse make sure you get 5-pin micro usb 2.0 adapter. There are other micro usb's that do not fit. I like the small 8" screen. I use the stylus a lot. Touch screen is pretty sensitive. It froze the first time I used it. Dell said to hold the on/off button for 15 seconds that release and hold for 3 seconds and it started right up and hasn't had that trouble again. Cut & paste is difficult (for me) probably will be easier with a mouse (when I get the correct adapter). Sound is sometimes not very loud but then I use earphones. Overall I like it mostly because of the size and it has Windows.

great product at a great price

This is probably one of the cheapest computers out there and really does everything good. You definetly have to put Windows 10 on it, after that is just perfect. Switch seamlessly between tablet and pc mode, from the docking station to the keyboard mobile case, tablet and pc mode on windows. Really I have never experienced something like this, perhaps only using Apple devices, but in this really dell made a good jobs and hats off to Windows 10 on this, the experience is amazing. If you are looking for a powerful computer to do regular office jobs, internet browsing, tablet mode, etc. This is way better than any ARM tablet on the market.

    Nice little tablet w/dock

The pro8 docking station solves the major problem the Venue Pro 8 has, namely you can't charge while peripherals are connected. The screen resolution is ok, but a little lackluster by today's standards. Battery life is not that great, will draw down 20% overnight while in sleep mode though this is more of an operating system issue. Memory is great and can be expanded via micro-sd or USB using the docking station or a USB stick. The docks built-in sound does not work well with windows 10. Overall this is decent performing tablet and a good value.

    Venue 8 (Win 8)

The Venue 8 is a relatively well designed tablet, and for less than MSRP is a very good value. The screen is small enough that the device is not cumbersome, but big enough to use the full Windows 8 included. Battery life is acceptable, and the IPS screen is excellent for document viewing. The USB A port is confusing as the device is supplied with a USB Micro B cable, so attempting to plug in the connector requires care to ensure it is not backwards.

Good screen, excellent sound, compact and sturdy build quality

The Dell Venue 8 is real value for the buck. The screen is bright and has good colour reproduction. I especially like the capability of the dell stylus. The OTG port adds more flexibility. Battery lasted a comfortable day with a single charge with wifi on. The speakers produced full sound that Impressed me. I'm a huge fan of good quality audio. It's convenient to go in a lady's purse or a guys messenger bag. Good for artists and designers with the stylus accessory

    TABLET PC

I'm impressed with Windows 8 and 10 on this Tablet PC. Fast performance with a full operating system and quad core CPU. The rear picture quality is wonderful. I'll never purchase another laptop. Wi-Fi is great. Touch screen work!!! I needed a full operating system to perform some task. Great alternate to the iPad. I can easily use this in place of Desktop PC for social media, internet and reading. The games from the store are not bad. A great purchase.

Replaced my lap top, the Dell is now my main computer and reader

Bought this unit as a replacement for my laptop as well as my kindle. It has filled those jobs without a hitch. This is not a "Tablet" but a full blown computer. I did get a wireless keyboard but never use it. Though this Dell fills my needs, it would not work well if you do a lot of word processing, otherwise it's an amazing little computer. Do get as much memory as you can because you'll need it.

Better quaity than I was expecting

This is a discontinues product and I was not fully sure what to expect, but Dell has done very well with this. I cannot see why it is not still available, except that it came only as an 8"tablet before Windows 10 and may not have been as functional. Now it is W10 it performs well for its memory and processor speed. Runs desktop Office and Office 365 applications and I am very happy with my purchase.

    Excellent Windows 8 Tablet

Replace a busted model (smashed) and use it for all sorts of Nook book reading, internet access, etc. Since it was a used model, price was right. I expect to get a few years of good service from it. Downside to these types of tablets is that if you have fat fingers, using the tabs and other small items on the page, it is cumbersome. All things considered, it's a great product from Dell.
