What You Want to Know About Intel CPU Fan with Heatsink

Intel produces a variety of processors and CPU fan assemblies designed to transfer the heat from the chips. CPU cooler with heatsinks combine passive and active cooling systems to maintain the operating temperature of the process. When selecting a CPU Fan with heatsink for your Intel CPU, there are different styles and models available.

How do you select an Intel CPU cooler with Heatsink?

  • Find your motherboard’s CPU socket type: The CPU bracket of the heatsink will have a different design depending on the socket type of the motherboard. You can find this information on the motherboard or by consulting the manual.
  • Measure the chassis height: Turbine with heatsinks can vary in height. By understanding the amount of clearance available, you can find a cooler unit that can fully fit inside of the case.
  • Locate the TDP of the CPU: This refers to the amount of heat the CPU can generate over time. You will want to select a cooler unit that can meet or exceed the TPD.
  • Choose a brand: If you prefer to use OEM cooling systems, you can choose from those manufactured by Intel. There are also various branded and unbranded turbine and radiators that are compatible with your motherboard.
  • Determine the fan speed needed: Some systems allow for a variable speed of the turbine. If you have a higher than average load usage on the CPU or plan to overclock it, variable or high speed fans will be needed to handle the increase in operating temperature. The size of the fans can also be a factor.

What types of Intel CPU coolers are available?

  • Dual Fan: This type of Intel CPU cooler features a fan on each side of the heatsink. In some systems, one will be used for drawing air in while the other pushes air out of the system in increased airflow.
  • Laptop fan: This style features a lower profile unit that moves the heatsink to the rear of the laptop. The cooling fans will be connected to the radiator with a series of pipes.
  • Low Profile: This type of cooling fan is compact as its designed for a computer case that is smaller than a standard case.

What are liquid cooling thermal solution kits?

These kits are a type of fan with heatsink combination that moves the unit away from the processor to the edge of the case. This allows the radiator for the unit to be larger and have additional fans. The heat transfer mount attached to the processor has two coolant-filled tubes attached that move the warm coolant to the radiator and brings back cool liquid to the processor.
