Miele Vacuum Belts

Busted vacuum belts happen all the time. One minute, you are vacuuming the living room carpet and the next, the motor starts revving and the roller stops rotating. This is usually caused when the rubber belt connecting the two parts snap, which is a sign that it is time for a replacement for your Miele vacuum.

What is a vacuum belt?

The belt is the component that connects the motor shaft to the brush roller. While they do not affect a vacuum cleaners suction power, they do control the brush rollers rotation. When the roller stops turning, the vacuum cleaner cannot effectively pick up dirt and dust. Belts are found on all types of vacuums, ranging from full-sized to canister vacuums.

How do you select a replacement?

When choosing a replacement, you will need to select one that is compatible with your vacuum cleaner model. Here are a few guidelines to follow before you make a purchase:

  • Know the model and model number of your vacuum: When possible, it is always preferable to find a belt designed specifically for your vacuum. If you have a power nozzle vacuum, for example, look for a replacement made for your model.
  • Measure the existing part: If you cannot find a replacement for your vacuum, do not fear. Look at your vacuums faulty part and measure its length and thickness. Search for a replacement that corresponds exactly to these measurements.
Can you install the replacement part myself?

Once you have purchased a replacement, follow these steps to get your vacuum cleaner working once more:

  • Remove the bottom plate: Start by unscrewing or unlatching the bottom plate of the vacuum cleaner. The brush roller should be visible.
  • Remove the faulty band: If you have not already gotten rid of the busted rubber band, detach it from the roller and the motor shaft carefully. Wipe the area gently before installing any new parts.
  • Attach the replacement band: If the replacement belt has visible numbers or letters, they should face outward. Fasten one end of the band onto the motor shaft, and then fasten the other end to the roller. Make sure it is positioned correctly, and then secure the roller brush in its housing.
  • Attach the bottom plate: Once everything is correctly aligned, refasten the bottom plate using screws or the vacuums latching mechanism.
What are common buying options?

Belts are designed to last the duration of a vacuum cleaner. That is why they are often sold in multiples. While you can purchase them in individual quantities, you are also likely to find them sold in packs of two to four.
