What is a window regulator?

The window regulator is a part contained inside the door of the vehicle that allows the window to move vertically up and down. The regulator inside the front door of the vehicle has two rails, while the rear door only has one in sedan models. The electrical motorized part inside allows you to control the movement of the glass with the touch of the window control button.

How do you replace the front window regulator?

After the door panel has been removed, remove the glass by pushing out the expanding nut and releasing the plastic clips and tabs from the glass. Carefully slide the glass out of the door and set it aside. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the regulator nuts from the window. Cut the strap near the upper regulator cable. Starting with the rear rail and then the motor side, remove the window regulator. Once out of the door frame, remove the window motor from the window regulator by removing the fasteners and rotating the motorized part counterclockwise.

How do you let the windows down with the remote?

If the feature is enabled on the remote for the vehicle, the remote to the BMW 330Ci can roll the windows down, including the sunroof (if installed). To initiate this feature, the car must be locked. Press and hold the unlock button on the remote to roll down the front windows. The rear windows will let down next, and then the sunroof will open. The key can also be used to let the windows down and up when inserted into the door or the trunk lid lock.

Why does the window glass drop when the door opens?

The BMW 330Ci coupe and convertible have no frame around the door glass. When the window is up, the glass fits against the rubber door trim. To prevent wear and tear on the rubber door trim, the glass slightly drops automatically when the door is opened. The window regulator plays a role in dropping the glass. It is important that the glass maintain a secure, firm fit against the rubber door trim to prevent leaking water or wind from getting inside the car.
